FAQs

Are the products made in the UK?

We are a wholly British business based in Winsford, Cheshire and all of our products including  our stocks, jus, glaces, demi-glace, gravies as well as our ready-to-use sauces are produced in the UK.

What is the best way to store your stocks?

All of the products can be stored in your kitchen cupboards or any cool, dry place. But please remember to reseal the lid after use. Also, there is no need to refrigerate any of our stocks. However, after mixing and using your stock in certain recipes you may have enough stock left over for another dish. The ready made stock is best stored in a plastic sealed pouch or even an ice cube tray in your freezer. The ice cubes can then be dropped into your dish as you like when next needed.

Are your products gluten free?

Yes, all the stocks are gluten free and suitable for coeliacs. This could be a chance to try out new recipes using our stocks and offer a new approach when cooking anything from soups to stews to rissottos.

Do your products contain any other Allergens?

We try to avoid the unnecessary inclusion of allergens. However, where an allergen such as celery is present this is because we strive to add an authentic flavour to the stock. All allergens are detailed on the ingredient list. However, should you require any further information then please forward your question to us at retailinfo@essentialcuisine.com and we’ll be happy to answer your query as best we can.

Do you use artificial colours, preservatives, MSG or hydrogenated oil?

We don’t add any artificial colours, preservatives, MSG or hydrogenated oil to the products. For a full ingredient list, please see our stock pot labels or the website product section for further details. Again, should you require any further information please let us know at retailinfo@essentialcuisine.com

What exactly does Powder Mix mean?

These are ingredients that have been concentrated and dried. The dry ingredients are then blended together to make a convenient and easy to use product that dissolves very easily and quickly in the appropriate amount of water.

What does reconstituted mean?

Reconstitution is diluting the concentrated ingredients with water to the required level to taste. Our powders are reconstituted for convenience and ease of use when storing.

Are your products high in Salt

All of our products have appropriate salt levels and meet FSA 2012 guidelines. At an average level of stock usage, 100ml of prepared stock has only 0.56g of salt.

What is a Maltodextrin?

A Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate powder which is used to aid the dispersion of the stock mix when it is reconstituted with water.

Is your Packaging recyclable?

The cardboard box is readily recyclable. Our pots are made from polypropylene so can be recycled by many household waste collections – but please check with your local collection if unsure. They are also dishwasher and microwave safe, and they are a great re-useable container in the kitchen and around the house.

Why has my stock powder gone hard and can I still use it?

This can happen if the lid isn’t properly sealed and, yes you certainly can use it. It will still dissolve in water or in your recipe although may take a little longer.
